No offer made to Aitzaz: Gilani

LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Saturday that the appointment of Pakistan People’s Party leader Aitzaz Ahsan as Punjab governor was not discussed in his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari. According to a private TV channel, after inaugurating a power plant in Pattoki, Gilani told reporters that the federal government was not planning to replace Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer with Aitzaz. To a question regarding speculations on Aitzaz’s appointment as attorney general, the prime minister said: “Aitzaz is a senior party worker and he has not been offered any position.” The prime minister said Aitzaz was not offered any portfolio in his recent meetings with the PPP’s top leadership. Aitzaz, who met President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani on Thursday, was reported to have been offered either the office of attorney general or the Punjab governor. However, in an interview with a private TV channel, Aitzaz neither confirmed nor denied the reported offer. These were the first formal meetings between Aitzaz and the top PPP leadership in nine months after the party had suspended the lawer leader’s Central Executive Committee membership on ‘disciplinary grounds’, the channel added. daily times monitor
